Interpreting mammalian evolution using Fugu genome comparisons.
Recently, it has been shown that a significant number of evolutionarily conserved human-Fugu noncoding elements function as tissue-specific transcriptional enhancers in vivo, suggesting that distant comparisons are capable of identifying a particular class of regulatory elements. We therefore hypothesized that by juxtaposing human/Fugu and human/mouse conservation patterns we can define conserv...
متن کاملFugu ESTs: new resources for transcription analysis and genome annotation.
The draft Fugu rubripes genome was released in 2002, at which time relatively few cDNAs were available to aid in the annotation of genes. The data presented here describe the sequencing and analysis of 24,398 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) generated from 15 different adult and juvenile Fugu tissues, 74% of which matched protein database entries. Analysis of the EST data compared with the Fugu g...
متن کاملCalcitonin: characterisation and expression in a teleost fish, Fugu rubripes.
The present report describes the structure and expression of the calcitonin gene in Fugu rubripes. It is composed of 4 exons and 3 introns. Splicing of exons 1, 2 and 3 generates the calcitonin pre-proprotein, while splicing of exons 1, 2 and 4 generates calcitonin gene-related protein (CGRP). Exons 1 and 2 encoding the signal sequence and the N-terminal peptide are common in both the gene prod...
متن کاملFUGU: Implementing Translation and Protection in a Multiuser, Multimodel Multiprocessor
Multimodel multiprocessors provide both shared memory and message passing primitives to the user for efficient communication. In a multiuser machine, translation permits machine resources to be virtualized and protection permits users to be isolated. The challenge in a multiuser multiprocessor is to provide translation and protection sufficient for general-purpose computing without compromising...
متن کاملErythropoietin gene from a teleost fish, Fugu rubripes.
In this paper we report the cloning and characterization of the erythropoietin (Epo) gene from the pufferfish, Fugu rubripes. This is the first nonmammalian Epo gene to be cloned. The Fugu Epo comprises 5 exons and 4 introns similar to the human EPO, and encodes a 185-amino acid protein that is 32% to 34% identical to Epo from various mammals. The synteny of genes at the Epo locus is conserved ...
